In the summer of 2001 Yoana Walschap and Andrea Alba founded COLSA. Both engineers, Walschap and Alba found the need for a Colombian Student Association with the growing population of Colombians on campus. The founders wanted a place where Colombians could come together and unite, as while as promote the culture and allow anyone interested in Latin culture to partake. To date 118 members from over 18 different countries including Colombia,  The United States, Peru, Bolivia, Portugal, Chile, Morocco, Mexico, Ethiopia, Germany, The United Kingdom, Norway, Venezuela, Netherlands, France, Spain, Portugal, and Brazil.
